The little lake with clayey bottom is situated about 6 km north of Sunne. The lake can be characterized as middle nutritious. The water level has been lowered a few times. The sloping shores consist mostly of thick layers mud. Probably the water depth is beyond 2 metres. Björka river is in- and outflow. The shores are covered with lower situated meadows which often are overfloated especially in springtime. Different plant societies vary from the surrounding solid ground to the middle of the lake. The biggest areals are taken up of sedges. Others are characterized of reed and rush. The last two are creating small holms in the lake. The lake is getting muddier all the time. Maybe by this the lake will be chocked up once.

The wildlife by Björken is very rich. Above all this place is important for rasting waders and waterfowls. Some species are breeding here. That which is leaving its mark on the lake is the lot of whoopers during springtime and autumn. They are using this quiet lake as a rast place on the migration to the breeding places in the north.

 
 
The bicycletour
begins in Sunne. You follow the way 241 direction Munkfors. In Torsberg turn left direction Bäckalund. In Gjutaregården drive to the left direction Ingmår. To reach the bird watching turret you take the gravel road to Otternäs. After the scond house on the left you see a tractor way. Leave the bicycles here and go down to the lake by feet. Otherwise you continue til you come to the gravel road to N Såneby. Here turn right, at the end cross the Lysvik way and continue to Björkefors Herrgård. The Picknick place is situated a bit to the right at lake Fryken. Then you continue to the south til you come to the Lysvik road again. Turn here right and back to Sunne. The tour takes ca. 25 km.

The walking trail
begins a little bit before the Mission House in Tomthult on the west side of the road. Follow the tractor way down and cross the river Råbäcken over a little bridge. Then follow the orange marked path to the bird watching turret.
