In Tiskaretjärn you will meet a landscape which is managed in an old traditional way. The nature is marked through a hilly landscape. The ground consists of hyperite, a rock rich of minerals. At the end of the 17th century Finnish immigrants came to this place bringing their old traditions of burn-beating and cultivation of boggy ground.

In the reserve, Atikullen is located, a hill with rich flora. The name comes from the Finnish word Athi which means ... In the 17th century Sweden was in war with Norway. At this time the people of the area were gathering on the hill with their animals and lifestock. Because there were many animals crowding on a small area and leaving its dung on it, the people believed that due to this the place was the most fertile of the area. Later one found the explanation that this was due to the rock hyperit containing minerals.

Cowslip, meadow saxifrage and others

Harebell, marguerite and yellow rattle belong to the meadowflowers which were obvious for the generation born before 1960. Today for the most people the flowers are unknown and not to be seen in the former magnificense.
Tiskaretjärn is a place reminding of old times. In the reserve you can experience a kind of farming like Astrid Lindgren describes in her books ”Emil of Lönneberg” and ” The children of Bullerby”. Pasture farming and hay making give the possibilities to conserve plants, animals and insects which are under threat of extermination.
Many of the meadow flowers have rosette leaves on the ground, exposing after the hay making. Due to this they can use the sun of the late summer to survive. Among others these are arnica, grass of Parnassus, hawk’s beard and hawkweed.
Besides this, other sorts of flowers, germinating in autumn, have it difficult if the meadow has not been cut with scythes or grazed. These flowers are among others gentian and yellow rattle. All these flowers you will find in the reserve.
